Nadia Kollappetta Raathri will be different - K. Madhu

May 29, 2007 NR

Ace director K. Madhu, who has given us many memorable hits including Irupathaam Noottandu, Moonnaam Mura, Aadhipan, the CBI films (Oru CBI Diary Kurippu, Jaagratha, Sethuram Iyer CBI and Nerariyaan CBI), Janaadhipathyam etc, is now engaged in the making of his latest film, Nadia Kollappetta Raathri, an investigative thriller with a train journey forming the backdrop. On the sets of this film in Kochi he was seen visibly as energetic as the protagonist in any of his many thrillers. In between shots he finds time to chat with Unni Nair of nowrunning.com about the theme and the other features of the film. Excerpts from the chat:

Let's begin with the theme of the film. What is it all about?

Being a thriller, and that too an investigative thriller, I wouldn't be able to divulge too much detail. All I would say is that it is about three murders and the investigation to nab the murderer. Three ladies, travelling in different coupes of the A.C First Class Compartment of the Souparnika Express, which is on its inaugural trip, are found murdered. One of these is Nadiya, a shooter. Another is a dancer and the third girl is a reporter. When the investigation doesn't lead anyway, Sharaffuddin Tharamasi from the Railway Anti Criminal Task Force is called in. He makes the investigation and cracks the case.

You have been heard saying in many interviews that this film is going to be very different from your other films. Could you elaborate?

Nadiya Kollappetta Rathri will be different from my other films. But to speak about that in detail would be a vain endeavour. It is something that you should check out and understand after the film is released. All that I would like to say is that the way the film is being made and the narration itself are different. Another thing is that the main incidents in the story take place on board a running train and it is a long time since we have had such a film. The differences would be evident when you see the film.

You are working with Kavya Madhavan for the first time. Could you tell us your assessment of the actress and her acting skills?

There is no point in making an assessment about her and her acting skills. She has already proved herself as an actress by doing all kinds of roles. It has been quite easy directing her. I just have to make certain corrections that have to be made especially because it is a thriller and the rest is all neatly executed by her. I get the results that I need.

Could you tell us about her character in the film?

Divulging more details about her character would not be good, taking into consideration the nature of the film. All that I can say is that hers is the title role and Nadiya, played by Kavya, is a shooter who gets murdered on board the running train. Unlike usual investigative thrillers, the heroine in this film has much importance.

What about music in the film?

There are of course no songs. But the background score would be one that syncs in with the mood and the tempo of the film, like my earlier films. Music has got a major role to play in enhancing and retaining the tempo of such thrillers.

What about Suresh Gopi's character?

Suresh Gopi is playing Sharaffuddin Tharamasi, who is an encounter-specialist working with the Railway Anti Criminal Task Force. He is sharp, aggressive and very much a person who suits the job he is doing. The character would no doubt be liked by all admirers of Suresh Gopi, and he has been doing the role with the ease which he has always displayed while doing such firebrand roles.

What about your next film?

There are other projects in the offing. But let me first finish up with this and then we can discuss the other projects.

When are you planning to release the film?

The film will be released most likely on the 22nd of June.
